As I promised, here I am with some more important advices on how to behave in case hurricane strikes.

3. Don’t Treat It Lightly

No, taping the windows won’t keep a monstrous hurricane away the same way jeans won’t keep you dry in water. Securing your windows is an important step; you need some very strong shutters. If you don’t take care of this aspect and your windows break, the hurricane will enter your house and take you, your family and your things in a massive whirl.

This is not something that I am making up. If you look this up, you will notice that many voices are trying to warn people about how taping windows is a silly thing to do in case of a hurricane. Many people do it and I’m sure the thought has crossed your mind, but don’t!

4. Don’t Adventure Yourself in the Midst of Chaos

Another common thing people do, (which follows naturally after the other mistakes I told you about) is deciding to leave in the middle of the storm. That’s the worst possible timing. The time to go is when you hear the first warning. If you can’t go then, then lock the house and spend your time preparing for the arrival of the hurricane. Under no circumstances you should decide to drive your car. A hurricane is not your usual storm; you are not safe in your car, you are basically without escape. The hurricane will eat your whole car with you in it.

Even if you panic and think that your home is not safe, don’t consider running with your car an option. The house is still a better option, and by tomorrow morning the hurricane will be over anyway.

5. Don’t Underestimate the Power of a Hurricane

Yes, the hurricane will be gone the next day. But that still leaves you facing horrible weather conditions and the leftovers of the hurricane. The roads will probably be closed, the supermarkets won’t be open or if they are, you won’t have much to buy anyway and then there are tons of repairs you will have to do.

Don’t ignore some preparations advice just because you know the hurricane will be gone pretty fast. The little things that you will have to do afterwards and the things you will need and you won’t be able to find will make your life pretty hard.

That’s why you keep hearing to get survival items to last you for a week or so; because even if the hurricane will be gone, you will still need to survive during its aftermath.

There are, of course, many other things you should keep in mind when you find yourself in such a situation, but let’s say these are the most crucial ones. Keep them in mind and the other will come to you as you go.
