So if you’re feeling depressed about the bad news you hear on TV and about the harmful items we use in our own life, I have to add some more to that. Apparently laundry detergents, shampoo and soap are no longer safe for us as they contain a number of toxic substances. Well, then, we’ll just avoid the products with those substances, right? Unfortunately they are not even marked on the bottle properly.

There is a study that says that 34 out of 40 recipients of house cleaners, lipstick and a number of other products are extremely toxic and can poison us.

Now laundry detergents are used by all of us, right? Because we have to. We like our clothes to be clean and to smell of lavender or some tropical fruits for a long, long time. Except the price to pay for this tiny thing is sky-high.

Laundry detergents contain petroleum distillates which lead to cancer. Another ingredient is phenols, which has been linked with toxic reactions that can vary from skin irritation to much worse consequences. And that fragrance that you love – it’s demonstrated to be very toxic for mammals and fish; it’s only a matter of time until they prove their effects on humans too. Yet another really bad ingredient is phosphates which damage the environment. Optical brighteners, too, are very toxic especially to fish, which have developed an adverse reaction to them.

The Poison in Our Laundry
What can we draw from this? That we can’t even have our basic needs fulfilled. We can’t even enjoy clean laundry or personal care without endangering our health. Over time, these poisonous substances create massive, irreversible effects.

By now you’re probably wondering what’s the alternative. We can’t simply give up on washing our clothes. Well, we can make our own laundry detergents and soaps. It’s not as difficult as it seems. Actually, you can replace most of the items you use in your household with homemade stuff. Ask the oldest member of your family what did he or his parents use. Remember that nature knows it all and it has something for each of us; medicinal plants, cleaning plants, etc.

Don’t let yourself get frightened by the traps we discover around us every day. We are able to avoid them if we go back to our roots and control everything we use in our household and on us. I bet that all that survivalist bullshit starts to make sense now.
