Today we’ll continue the series we started last time about what not to pack in our survival bags and we will learn a few more tips.

          1. Food that is not Packaged Properly

There are a lot of options out there if you’re looking for food that will give you the necessary nutrients in a crisis situation. The problem with a lot of them is the package. For instance, breakfast cereals: apart from containing GMO ingredients, they are not packaged properly. If your kids can’t do without them, then isolate them and package them so they don’t take up much space.

          2. Homemade Food

It’s not a bad idea to store food you prepare at home, but you have to know how. You should know that they only last for about a year as opposed to the supermarket items which will outdate them. That’s because you use different kind of preservatives, but also because the type of machine-packaging the retail stores use leaves the oxygen out, which usually is the cause food spoils.

So don’t rush in storing a lot of homemade food for the emergency situations, even if they’re healthier and you can save money by making it. It’s just a pity because if you have to throw it away, you will feel worse because you made it yourself.

           3. Flour

The biggest problem with flour is that it brings weevils along, and it’s so hard to get rid of them or of eggs. The longer you store flour, the more nastier the situation will get. In the end, you will just end up throwing it away. Plus, it’s not pleasant to open your pantry and find a bunch of insects in it.

More important, you will rely on that flour in time of crisis, which can be a real issue if you don’t have a plan B. If you have to throw it away, then your family will suffer because of it. And let me tell you this, in survival situations, the worst thing you can do is rely on the unreliable. Don’t take that lightly, it will help you to hold on to it.

Survival preparedness is a continuous process; you have to be in a constant search for alternatives, better items then the ones you have. That’s the most useful thing to keep in mind.
