I remember how good I felt the first time I heard about WikiLeaks. Finally, information I can trust from a non-profit organization, from people who joined forces for the truth from all over the world. Now guess who doesn’t think this is a good idea? Obama.

Apparently, just recently, it has been revealed that the US President has been spying on two of the WikiLeaks members from Iceland. The Administration has discovered that the two citizens are also linked to the recent NSA surveillance scandal. The scariest thing of all is that Google has been coerced by the US Department of Justice to disclose the emails that the two Icelanders have sent and received on their Gmail addresses.

But take this: this whole investigation has been revealed by the two Icelanders under investigation, namely Herbert Snorrason and Smári McCarthy, who leaked to the public the official documents that coerced Google into handing information to the Government.

It doesn’t take much to foresee what’s gonna happen to these guys if they get charged with crime. The former US Army intelligence analyst named Bradley Manning, who has helped WikiLeaks by sending them classified documents is right now on trial. Should he be convicted, this 25-year old will go to prison for life.

War On Privacy Continues

Every day I am bewildered to find out how little freedom we have left. Every day someone is working to dig out the truth of what is going on in the world, the almighty government backfires, proving that its elaborate speeches about freedom, our civil rights and anything we ever believed in are a bunch of lies. I believe that we cannot stress this enough; you are not safe in your online world.

“Anything you say can be used against you in a Court of Law.” – you thought that this a statement addressed to someone charged with a crime, didn’t you? Well, it applies to all of us.

My take on this is that we should use the online world to get informed from trustworthy sources that joined forces in a quest for truth and are not looking for profit in the process, but watch what we’re saying. It’s better to limit ties with the government. Private doesn’t mean that the government can’t reach it. You might think you are not guilty of any crime. But isn’t that relative nowadays? Call it paranoia, but better safe than sorry, I always say.

For a moment there, I thought that all the citizens who are now protesting against the violation of privacy and of civil rights will have an impact on how the Obama Administration is handling these issues, but it doesn’t. So watch your back and take care of your family, get off the grid and learn survival skills – that’s the best we can all do.
